LATIHAN 3
Listening Section
In this section of the test, you will have the chance to show how well you understand spoken English. There are four parts for this section, with special directions for each part.

Part I. Pictures
Questions: 1 to 3.

Directions: For each item, there is a picture in your test book and four short statements about it on the tape. They are spoken TWICE, and are not written in your test book, so you must listen to them carefully. You must choose one statement – (A), (B), (C), or (D) – that best describes the picture. Then, on your answer sheet, mark your choice.

Example:
Look at the following picture.
Now, listen to the following statements.
A.  They are looking at the window.
B.  They are having a meeting.
C.  They are eating in a restaurant.
D.  They are moving the furniture.

Choice (B)  –  “They are having a meeting.”  –  best describes what is seen in the picture.
Therefore, you should mark (B) on your answer sheet.

Let’s begin with question number one.
Number one. Look at picture number one.
A.  One of the laptops is turned off.
B.  The laptop screen displays the girl’s photo.
C.  The girls are studying mathematics together.
D.  The girls are the only students in the room.

Number two. Look at picture number two.
A.  The family are holding hands happily.
B.  The family are circling the beach slowly.
C.  The big waves rolled onto the family quickly.
D.  The family are about to hand over the passports.

Number three. Look at picture number three.
A.  They are all eating fish and chips.
B.  The baby in the stroller is crying.
C.  The café is designed for mom and babies.
D.  They are all sitting at an outdoor café.

Part II. Questions and Responses
Questions: 4 to 7.

Directions: In this part of the test, you will hear several questions spoken in English, followed by four responses, also spoken in English. The questions and responses will be spoken TWICE. They will not be printed in your test book, so you must listen to them carefully to understand what the speakers say. You have to choose the best response to each question. Now listen to a sample question.

You will hear  :
Woman  : Does this plane stop in Makassar?
Man    :
(A) Be sure to stop and see the island.
(B) The stop sign is in this lane.
(C) Please don’t miss the plane.
(D) It does, but only briefly.

Choice (D)  –  “It does, but only briefly.”  –  is the best response to the question. “Does this
plane stop in Makassar?” Therefore, you should mark (D) on your answer sheet.

Let’s begin with question number 4.
4. Man    : Why did she say she was late?
Woman  : . . . .
A.  The traffic was very light.
B.  Her alarm didn’t go off.
C.  She got up on time.
D.  She said she would wait.

5. Woman  : What company did you use to ship the package?
Man  : . . . .
A.  We used Romany, as usual.
B.  I sent the package by ship.
C.  A lot of packages were sent.
D.  I worked for a shipping company.

6. Man    : Could you hold this for me?
Woman  : . . . .
A.  How big is the hole?
B.  This isn’t for me.
C.  It was held last night.
D.  Sure. What is it?

7. Woman  : Is it OK if I leave now?
Man  : . . . .
A.  Yes, that’s fine.
B.  Yes, it’s true.
C.  I’ll take some.
D.  I left it there.

Part III. Short Conversations
Questions: 8 to 11.

Directions: In this part of the test, you will hear several short conversations. You will hear the conversations TWICE. The conversations will not be printed in your test book, so you must listen carefully to understand what the speakers say. In your test book, you will read two questions about each conversation. Each question will be followed by four answers. You have to choose the best answer to each question and mark it on your answer sheet.

Example:
You will hear:
Man  : I greatly appreciate you helping me out with this proofreading.
Woman: My pleasure. I wish you success with your presentation.

You will read  :
What is the topic of the conversation?    
A.  Expressing gratitude.        
B.  Giving opinion.
C.  Asking for help.        
D.  Expressing pleasure.

Choice (A)  –  “Expressing gratitude”  –  is the best answer to the question, “What is the topic
of the conversation?” Therefore, you should mark (A) on your answer sheet.

The following dialog is for questions 8 and 9.
Man  : Here’s my plan to redecorate the office.
Woman: Are you going to start from the staff room, then the meeting room and the lobby?
Man  : No, I am going to redecorate the lobby first.

The following dialog is for questions 10 and 11.
Woman: Who was the artist working with before coming here?
Man  : She was with that modern art group in Bangkok.
Woman: I see.

Part IV. Short Monologs
Questions: 12 to 15.

Directions: In this part of the test, you will hear several short monologs. Each will be spoken TWICE. They will not be printed in your test book,  so you must listen to them carefully to understand and remember what is said. In your test book, you will read two or more questions about each short monolog. Each question will be followed by four answers. You have to choose the best answer to each question and mark it on your answer sheet.

Questions 12 and 13 refer to the following monolog.
Man:
Good afternoon. It’s great to be here today. As you all know, I’m the Head of the Design Department. I’ve been in this job for four years. Before that, I worked  for another very successful company in Japan for five years. I’m talking to you today as the manager of the team which developed this new product. By the end of this session, you’ll know enough about the new product to be able to sell it with confidence  to our customers. You’ll know where the idea came from, how it was designed, and how it can benefit our customers.

Questions 14 and 15 refer to the following monolog.
Woman:
Garuda Indonesia held a special Kartini Flight to celebrate Kartini Day on  April 21st. The GA 204 Kartini Flight  had all females crew that day  that day. The employees were captain Ida Fiqriah, who is the carrier’s first ever female pilot, co-pilot Melinda, flight service manager EviSoenarjono, and aircraft release engineers Pita  Hadi Sriwahyuni and Dessy Purnamasari. According to Fisheries Minister, Susi Pudjiastuti,  who was among the passengers on  the flight, Garuda Indonesia deserved praise for arranging this special flight. The involvement of female pilots, cabin crew and ground crew are proof that women can work with technological advancements and career dynamic challenges.
