Listening Section
In this section of the test, you will have the chance to show how well you understand spoken English. There are four parts for this section, with special directions for each part.

Part I. Pictures
Questions: 1 to 3.

Directions:
For each item, there is a picture in your test book and four short statements about it on the tape. They are spoken TWICE, and are not written in your test book, so you must listen to them carefully. You must choose one statement – (A), (B), (C), or (D) – that best describes the picture. Then, on your answer sheet, mark your choice.

Example:
Look at the following picture.
Now, listen to the following statements.
A.    All of the boys are running around the field.
B.    Some of them are trying to get the ball.
C.    One of the boys is holding the ball.
D.    None of them are playing football.    

Choice (B) – “Some of them are trying to get the ball.” – best describes what is seen in the picture. Therefore, you should mark (B) in your test book.

Let’s begin with question number one.

Look at picture number 1:
A. There are three lamps above the family.
B. There are two people sitting at the table.
C. The people are having lunch at the restaurant.
D. One of them is waving her hand to the camera.

Look at picture number 2:
A. They are swimming in the pool.
B. The people are sitting on the boat.
C. There are some boats on the water.
D. The people are lying around the pool.

Look at picture number 3:
A. The building’s yard is crowded.   
B. The building looks like a pyramid.
C. The lawn looks very empty and dirty.
D. The tourists are queuing to enter the building.

Part II. Questions and Responses
Questions: 4 to 7.

Directions:
In this part of the test, you will hear several questions spoken in English, followed by four responses, also spoken in English. The questions and responses will be spoken TWICE. They will not be written in your test book, so you must listen to them carefully to understand what the speakers say. You have to choose the best response to each question.

Now listen to a sample question.           
You will hear:
Man    : It’s been a while since we met last week. Where have you been?
Woman    :
(A) Yes, I have a new sport car.
(B)  I’m doing my job for a while.
(C) I met you at the restaurant last week.
(D) I’ve been in Bali with my family for a few days.

Choice (D) – “I’ve been in Bali with my family for a few days.” – is the best response to the question. “Where have you been?” Therefore, you should mark (D) in your test book.
Let’s begin with question number 4.

Number 4
Woman: The test was very difficult. Do you think I’ll pass?
Man: …
A. I heard the test will be given in a week.
B. I think the teacher should prepare as well.
C. I’m positive I’ll pass the test with flying color.
D. Why not! You are the most brilliant in our class.

Number 5
Man: The suitcase looks heavy. Would you let me get it for you?
Woman: …
A. Yes, I’ll get the red suitcase over there, that’s exactly what I need.
B. Oh, thank you. I bought that suitcase when I was traveling to French.
C. You are very generous; I cannot imagine taking it to my car without help.
D. I think its weight is over 20 kilos. I hope I don’t have to pay for my luggage.

Number 6
Woman: Mrs. Livi has invited me to her house for dinner. What should I bring for her?
Man: …
A. How about a basket of fresh fruit?
B. She just moved into her new house.
C. Why don’t you serve me your famous salad?
D. I’ve been to Mrs. Livi’s house. It’s very cozy.

Number 7
Man: Have you seen Lia’s exhibition? What do you think?
Woman: …
A. Oh, Lia is always nice to everyone. No wonder she has a lot of friends.
B. My friend … exhibition is held in Salary Hall.
C. It’s a collection of amazing artwork. She is really talented.
D. In my opinion, we have to learn how to appreciate artwork.

Part III. Short Conversations
Questions: 8 to 11.

Directions: 
In this part of the test, you will hear several short conversations. You will hear the conversations TWICE. The conversations will not be written in your test book, so you must listen carefully to understand what the speakers say.
In your test book, you will read a question about each conversation. The question will be followed by four answers. You have to choose the best answer to each question.

Example:
You will hear:
Woman    : That jacket really looks good on you. Is it genuine leather?
Man    : Of course. I had it made by Avie, my favourite designer.
Woman    : I think I should have one for my husband.

You will read    :
What will the woman probably do?
A. Design a jacket.
B. Call the designer.
C. Wear a leather jacket
D. Contact her husband.

Choice (B) – “Call the designer” – is the best answer to the question, “What will the woman probably do?” Therefore, you should mark (B) in your test book.
Let’s begin with question number 8.

Number 8
Woman: Artjog is an excellence annual event. I got there every year.
Man: The most impressive artwork was still remembered by Mulayana.
Woman: Yes. It’s through hard work and great passion to create that’s artwork.

Number 9
Man: Mr. Frank came here to talk to you. But you weren’t in your room.
Woman: Really? I left the office for half hour to buy some medicine.
Man: If I know where you were, I wouldn’t ask him wait.

Number 10
Woman: Hi, what are you doing? Are you planning something?
Man: I’m making … for my group trip to Vietnam. We are going to visit the Red … and Ho Chi Mint City. Will you join us?
Woman: That’s sound very interesting. But, I promised my cousin to visit him in Bali.

Number 11
Woman: Why are you home early? Were you sent home from school?
Man: No mom. We were sent home because of the apartment fire near our school. It was very frightening and everyone screamed and then cried.
Woman: My son is … I think that’s why … vacation about you coming home early.

Part IV. Short Monologues
Questions: 12 to 15.

Directions:   
In this part of the test, you will hear several short monologues. Each will be spoken TWICE. They will not be written in your test book, so you must listen to them carefully to understand and remember what is said. In your test book, you will read two or more questions about each short monologue. Each question will be followed by four answers. You have to choose the best answer to each question.

Questions 12 and 13 refer to the following announcement.
Welcome to Phi dormitory. Considering that it is your first year, the following are the regulations that you have to pay attention to.
1. You have to share the room and other dormitory properties with the other boarder.
2. Guests are allowed in the dormitory from 7 am to 9 pm.
3. Alcohol, any kind of gambling, smoking and any other activities risking the safety and peace of the dormitory are strictly forbidden.
4. You must keep the dormitory environment clean.
5. No pets are allowed.

Questions 14 and 15 refer to the following procedure.

When you’ll end a higher grade, you are usually asked to write essays. Here are some steps of writing an essay.
1. Do research for your topic. Find that’s many references that possible to help you develop the topic.
2. Make a list of your ideas and take some time to think about your ideas.
3. Look again at the ideas and choose the strongest idea that supports your topic.
4. Make an outline. Write a topic sentence for your main idea. Then write a list of supporting evidences.
5. Write the body of your essay. Make sure the length meet the teacher’s requirements. But write as freely as possible to express your idea.
